The exhibition
Circa 1958: Breaking Ground in American Art
at
the Ackland Museum on the UNC campus is a “don’t miss” cultural event. Luckily,
on Wednesday October 22 from 6-8 pm, Harvard Club members and guests will be
feted at a private viewing of this historic exhibition - with commentary
provided by Emily Kass,
the Ackland's new director and a specialist in American art. Mounted in
celebration of the Ackland's fiftieth anniversary, Circa 1958 includes
approximately sixty-two works by fifty-seven artists drawn from more than fifty
public and private collections, including the holdings of many of the artists
themselves.
Among the artists represented are: Jasper Johns,
Robert Rauschenberg, Claes Oldenburg,
Ed Ruscha, Yoko Ono, Andy Warhol, Roy
Lichtenstein, Ellsworth Kelly,
Lee Bontecou, John Chamberlain, Louise
Nevelson, George Segal,
Kenneth Noland, Frank Stella, and Agnes Martin. This truly is a rare
opportunity to experience an extraordinary variety of groundbreaking American art.
